Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) encourages the intellectual and creative development of women in the visual arts by providing a forum for education and critical dialogue. Since its inception in 1984, mentorship has been the core activity of the organization and the key strategy in redressing gender inequality. Senior women artists share their experience and expertise with developing artists, empowering them to build their art practices. Although mentorships are reserved for women, MAWA also offers lectures, artist talks, studio visits, workshops, critical writing opportunities, screenings and symposia to people of all genders. Through skills and knowledge sharing, MAWA has created a vibrant community, serving artists in all phases of their careers.
