Founded in 1977, Spira is a cooperative devoted to independent film. Its vocation is to support and promote the creation of high-quality original works, specifically independent productions: works in which creators retain creative and editorial control at every production stage. Through its program of support, which includes equipment rentals and a post-production studio offered at a discount (90 to 95 percent), Spira supports more than thirty films per year.

To help develop the cinematographic milieu, Spira offers training, distribution and professional networking opportunities, and has been putting together collective creative projects since 2004. These initiatives enable filmmakers to develop their practices and support projects that have a direct effect on culture and art in Quebec, allowing the discipline to grow. Spira is a professional, cultural, non-profit organization, and is one of the ten members of the Méduse cooperative.
