As one of Canada’s oldest artist-run centres, Xchanges has provided a launching ground for Victoria’s artists for over forty-five years. Xchanges has been a vital component of the region’s historical and cultural development through the provision of affordable studios for hundreds of artists, community outreach programming and collaborations, and exhibition opportunities for local, emerging and established artists.
Founded in 1967 and now in its fourth location, Xchanges houses nine studios (individual and shared), a group photography studio, a workshop, the centre’s office and a bright, south-facing gallery with a panoramic view of downtown Victoria.
Xchanges is committed to providing affordable studios for practicing visual artists and a public gallery for local and regional artists, and to promoting and supporting the endeavors of the local artistic community. Our members, both studio and associate (non-studio), are active in the community: teaching, exhibiting locally, nationally and internationally, and volunteering their skills with community organizations.
