La Bande Vidéo is a media arts creation centre that participates in the emergence of contemporary videographic culture. It offers artists production and dissemination tools and encourages them to engage in critical reflection on their work. The centre produces and disseminates experimental single-channel videos, video installations and animated works. Its exhibition space is the only gallery in Quebec devoted exclusively to media arts. Its media centre (mlbv.ca) offers no-charge access to almost 350 works produced or disseminated by the organization in the past thirty or more years.

The centre’s mandate is:
- To support the production, presentation and distribution of independent media artworks
- To encourage research, experimentation and the renewal of videographic language;
- To create a site of reflection on media arts;
- To support the practice of artists at every stage of their careers.
