Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society (est. 1980) is an artist-run production and exhibition centre that supports independent filmmakers and media artists. Through initiatives that foster dialogue and experimentation with cinematic practices, we engage our membership and the broader community through the transformative power of the moving image and the changing role of film in its contemporary context.

In addition to our main Howe Street location, Cineworks runs an analog filmmaking studio in the Railtown area. This analog annex is an open studio space focusing on optical printing, film processing/printing, animation, installation, exhibition and mixed media. Cineworks has an active membership of over two hundred filmmakers who are involved in a variety of aspects of independent filmmaking on an ongoing basis. Cineworks was incorporated as a non-profit society in 1980, and in 1983 was recognized as a charitable organization by Revenue Canada.
