Established in 1992, Est-Nord-Est, at once an artist residency and an artist-run centre, supports the development of research and experimentation in the field of contemporary art, providing a professional environment conducive to exchange and rich in traditional knowledge. To achieve its mandate, the centre offers one- to two-month residencies for artists, curators and writers engaged in contemporary art. Each residency brings together four artists and a curator and/or author in the village of Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, where they can benefit from local expertise and the unique rural environment of the St. Lawrence River. Est-Nord-Est offers technical and logistical support to its residents, thus providing a flexible production framework for the exploration of new creative avenues.
Est-Nord-Est is a member of the RCAAQ and the RES-ARTIS network, and welcomes artists involved in the Pépinières européennes pour jeunes artistes program.
