The Or Gallery is an artist-run centre committed to exhibiting work by local, national and international artists whose art practice is of a critical, conceptual and/or interdisciplinary nature. The Or Gallery was established in 1983 as a small gallery space and adjacent apartment in a former storefront deli on Vancouver’s Eastside Franklin Street, and since its inception has acted as a space for research, proposition making, conceptual experimentation and documentation.

The Or Gallery’s mandate, in brief, is to provide a non-profit gallery that benefits the community as a whole, to provide a space for experimental art practices, to make art accessible to a wide and varied audience by organizing artistic projects at sites other than the gallery, and to place an emphasis on works that privilege ideas and an interrelation between curatorial and artistic practices.
